The Valuable News weekly series is dedicated to provide summary about news, articles and other interesting stuff mostly but not always related to the UNIX/BSD/Linux systems. Whenever I stumble upon something worth mentioning on the Internet I just put it here.
Today the amount information that we get using various information streams is at massive overload. Thus one needs to focus only on what is important without the need to grep(1) the Internet everyday. Hence the idea of providing such information ‘bulk’ as I already do that grep(1).
Past releases are available at the dedicated NEWS page.

Re: why not BSD, I was unpleasantly surprised earlier this month to find out that FreeBSD 14 lacks support for a Broadcom wi-fi adapter that two out of three Linux distributions I tried on the same machine can use out of the box. And it’s not a new machine!
But mostly, I think the BSDs are held back on the desktop by their almost exclusive focus on esoteric optimizations for servers. Look at any BSD release; that’s going to be 80% or more of the announced improvements: even more ways to fiddle with the kernel and filesystems. Which is great if you’re a sysadmin looking to eke out the last ounce of performance out of your hardware.
But what if I’m a programmer looking to code (in text mode, without X11!) on a BSD as a primary use case? What’s in it for me?

I have read it – its exaggerate for my standards.
I use FreeBSD on laptops/desktop since 2005 and it mostly works.
Do some things do not work? Sure. Do all things work on Linux? Nope. Do all things work on Windows? Nope. Not to mention how many times Linux or Windows break to the point of reinstall.
From all the OSes I know – and they are few – FreeBSD sucks the least – just pick the right hardware.
… and we have programmers covered:
