Valuable News – 2020/02/24

The Valuable News weekly series is dedicated to provide summary about news, articles and other interesting stuff mostly but not always related to the UNIX or BSD systems. Whenever I stumble upon something worth mentioning on the Internet I just put it here.

Today the amount information that we get using various information streams is at massive overload. Thus one needs to focus only on what is important without the need to grep(1) the Internet everyday. Hence the idea of providing such information ‘bulk’ as I already do that grep(1).

    Witaj, zainstalowaล‚em FreeBSD 12.1 na VirtualBox i nie mogฤ™ uzyskaฤ‡ wiฤ™kszej rozdzielczoล›ci niลผ 1024×768. Dodaล‚em odpowiednie wpisy vbox do pliku /etc/rc.conf i do plikรณw .xinitrc i /boot/loader.conf nic nie pomogล‚o. Czy trzeba zrobiฤ‡ Xorg -Configure i tam wpisaฤ‡ w /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

      napewno trzeba zainstalowac virtualbox-ose-additions:

      # pkg install virtualbox-ose-additions

      Potem musisz zrobic plik /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/card.conf o takiej zawartosci:

      Section “Device”
      Identifier “VBox Video”
      Driver “vboxvideo”

      … i dodaj ponizsze na poczatku ~/.xinitrc to ponizsze:

      if [ “$( sysctl -n kern.vm_guest )” != “none” ]
      VBoxClient –clipboard 1> /dev/null 2> /dev/null

      … i powinno dzialac.

      Jakby co pisz jakby nie dzialalo to bedziemy ogarniac.

    Po dodaniu tych wpisรณw gdm przestaล‚ siฤ™ uruchamiaฤ‡, czarny ekran zatrzymuje siฤ™ na login. To fi na koล„cu to powinno byฤ‡ if? Dla pewnoล›ci sprawdziล‚em i z if i to samo, gdm nie dziaล‚a.

      Na koncu powinno byc ‘fi’ bo zaczyna sie od ‘if’ a konczy na ‘fi’ – taka skladnie wymyslili ๐Ÿ™‚

      Co nie uruchamiania sie to pokaz jeszcze caly config X11 jaki Ci sie wygenerowal.

      Pokaz tez plik /var/log/Xorg.0.log to moze cos namierzymy.

    Wiesz co, chyba nie ma sensu tego dalej naprawiaฤ‡ pod VirtualBox. Prawdopodobnie na fizycznym sprzฤ™cie by takie problemy nie wystฤ…piล‚y. Dopiero jak kupiฤ™ innego laptopa, to zainstaluje na czysto na nim FreeBSD jeลผeli siฤ™ da. Pozdrawiam.
